Your brand heritage is unique to you, and letting people in on your history is a great way to cement what you stand for as a company. Special dates are an easy way to do this, so it’s no surprise that some of the biggest and most iconic brands have made a big deal of milestone anniversaries. Let’s take a look back at 5 of the most memorable brand anniversary celebrations of recent years.
1. Disneyland Paris – 25th anniversary
When Disneyland Paris reached its quarter-century in 2017, the birthday celebrations were always going to be spectacular. And Disney didn’t disappoint – the theme park marked the occasion with a fantastic new night time illumination show, incorporating huge fountains, awe-inspiring fireworks and lasers. Guests were also treated to new rides, including the Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain rollercoaster that boasted awesome special effects, and a parade that included an impressive fire-breathing dragon.
2. Coca Cola: 125th anniversary
Big brands like Coca Cola trade on their long history. So for its 125th anniversary, the drinks giant pulled out all the stops. A TV ad took a look back on the brand’s history through the ages, while its experiential marketing campaign included a series of giant Coca Cola bottles featuring bubble machines, to fizz up excitement about the brand in public places. Most impressive of all was the world’s largest single building illumination, which lit up the 26-storey Coca Cola HQ building in Atlanta with an image of that iconic bottle.
3. Facebook: 10th anniversary
The best marketing strategies always make it personal – and what could be more personal than your own photos and memories? To celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2014, Facebook presented its users with a unique video looking back at their own life events of the past decade.
4. Baskin Robbins: 65th anniversary
Sometimes, scarcity increases demand. That was definitely the case when, on the eve of its 65th anniversary, ice cream maker Baskin Robbins announced that it was ‘retiring’ a selection of its classic flavours. It may seem a strange way to celebrate, but it certainly caught the attention of the dessert-loving public, who flocked out to get one last taste of their favourite scoops.
5. Guinness: 250th anniversary
Guinness and live music go hand in hand. For its 250th anniversary in 2009, parent company Diageo organised a series of musical events all over the world. Keeping the brand’s incredible heritage alive, the event was named “Arthur’s Day” as a tribute to the brewery’s founder, Arthur Guinness. With performances from high-profile musicians including Tom Jones, Kasabian and the Sugababes, Arthur’s Day mimicked a national holiday, encouraging people to get out and raise a glass to Arthur. The event, taking place in Dublin, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, New York and Yaoundé, was so successful that it was held annually between 2009 and 2013.
