Bubble Tubes – Bank of England Note Launch

We were a little shocked when we got a direct call from the Bank of England, but were delighted when they wanted us to work on the launch of the new polymer £5 note.

CHALLENGE

The Bank of England wanted to showcase the new and improved features of the note at an exclusive launch event held at Blenheim Palace, including:
 

  • Being more resistant to dirt and moisture – the notes stay cleaner for longer than paper banknotes.
  • Enhanced security features – making them harder to counterfeit.
  • Improved quality.
  • A waterproof feature – hence why the client was keen to display the note within a water feature.

SOLUTION

Due to the high profile nature of the product, it was important that the security of the note prior to its public launch was maintained at all times. We therefore suggested a Bubble Tube, where the note could be safely and securely displayed within the tube, but clearly visible for everyone to see (whilst also showcasing the waterproof feature).

RESULTS

We suspended a number of notes over the length of the tube using a fishing wire (which became virtually invisible within the water). 

The notes were secured to the line and as the bubbles rose through the tube, the notes fluttered in the water, attracting the attention of the guests who arrived at the entrance of the venue.
